Star Eastern Hemisphere Championship 2022, Day One: Diego Negri and Sergio Lambertenghi provisional leaders

Naples and the Reale Yacht Club Canottieri offered  their most beautiful conditions to the champions of the Star class, engaged from today in the Eastern Hemisphere Championship. It was a great first day in the Gulf of Naples. Clear skies, a ten knot Grecale wind, two clean races with regular starts: ideal for sailing.
The best of the day is the world champion Diego Negri, who, with crew Sergio Lambertenghi, won both races, taking immediately the head of the overall ranking. In second place another Italian world champion, Enrico Chieffi with Ferdinando Colaninno: the recent Italian Open champions bring home a fourth and a second place of the day. Third are Marin Misura and Tonko Barac on Croatel Two from Croatia (5-3).

The Star Class returns to Naples. The International Star Class Yacht Racing Association, Reale Yacht Club Canottieri Savoia and Flotta di Capri, in collaboration with Sezione Velica Marina Militare Napoli, Circolo Remo e Vela Italia and Circolo Canottieri Napoli and under the patronage of the Italian Sailing Federation, are organizing from Wednesday, April 27th to Sunday, May 1st 2022 the Star Eastern Hemisphere Championship 2022.

EHC Silver Star withdrawn

The EHC Silver Star designation  has been withdrawn due to Covid-19, but Regates Royales will continue.  Travel restrictions in place from various countries to and from France have caused the Class officers to with draw the Silver Star.  The Class Officers do not feel that access to the Championship is equal for all potential participants through no fault of their own.  

Thank you to the Yacht Club de Cannes for all the work on behalf of the ISCYRA to host the 2020 EHC.  We hope sailors interested in racing will continue in the Regates Royales.

Eastern Hemisphere Championship in Cannes

Slowly but steadily, some regattas are timidly yet very happily happening in Europe and North America, and some are scheduled for the oncoming weeks. Two silver events will take place in the Old Continent over September and October, the Eastern Hemisphere in Cannes, France, and the European Championship in Riva del Garda, Italy. The former was previously planned for the beginning of May, while the latter was scheduled to be held in Stockholm, Sweden.

Nothing went according to plans this year, but the Eastern Hemisphere in Cannes looks like it might even be better now, with many exciting events planned on the water and ashore, as it is associated to the historic “Regate Royales de Cannes”, the traditional classic boat week in the South of France...

Venue Update

The Yacht Club de Cannes announces that all the efforts of its organizing teams for the Régates Royales 2020 will be focused on the regatta part to ensure perfect races. The activities and villages at the port are canceled this year.
The classic sailboats, 5.5 m, the Smeralda and Tofinou, the Dragon Class and the Star Class will meet from September 20 to 26 in the old port of Cannes. However the Yacht Club de Cannes and its Restaurant located near PALM BEACH will be happy to welcome you
The REGATES ROYALES show will be present in the bay of Cannes this year again.
The Yacht Club de Cannes would like to thank its main partner Banque Populaire Méditerranée, as well as Marine Pool and in particular the city of Cannes, the Departmental Council 06 and the CCI port of Cannes without which nothing would be possible.
